Turkey: Turkey and Cotton Products Update

MY 2016 Turkish cotton crop is now estimated at 400,000 hectares and 705,000 metric tons (MT) (3.2 million bales). Suitable weather conditions, quality seeds and good farming practices all had positive effects on increased field yields. Domestic cotton consumption increased to 1.475 million metric tons (MMT) (6.77 million bales) in MY 2015 due to increase demand at export markets. Total cotton imports during MY 2015 reached 918,307 MT (4.2 million bales) of which 329,384 MT (1.5 million bales) were U.S. cotton. The antidumping investigation on U.S. cotton exports to Turkey has been finalized and three percent antidumping tax issued on U.S. cotton imports.
