U.S. Ag Exporters Connect with Buyers on Trade Mission to Brazil
On the first-ever FAS trade mission to Brazil, 22 U.S. companies and farm groups made great headway to expand their agricultural exports and develop their business relationships in Recife and São Paulo. Over the course of five days, as a result of more than 275 one-on-one business meetings, participants secured $6.7 million in projected sales of U.S. farm and food products to Brazil over the next 12 months.
In addition to the many meetings between U.S. exporters and potential buyers, mission highlights included briefings with the private sector and government representatives, as well as visits to a wheat milling plant, a food processing plant and several retail food outlets – all importers of U.S. agricultural products.
The Brazil trade mission delegation also included eight U.S. ethanol companies and associations who participated in the Northeast Ethanol Forum 2017 conference and a series of industry-related site visits and stakeholder meetings. The ethanol delegation’s itinerary included a tour of the Port of Suape and meetings with Brazilian government representatives to help them seek a greater understanding of Brazil's recently implemented ethanol tariff-rate quota.
Overall the mission provided participants a wealth of on-the-ground knowledge about the United States’ current agricultural trade outlook with Brazil and future export and market development opportunities.
