The United States commands the global market for sweet and savory snacks. Our Canadian neighbors rank as our top customer, offering tremendous opportunities for export-ready U.S. food processors and small businesses. Valued at $17 billion in 2020, Canada is the largest foreign market for U.S. high-value, consumer-oriented products, especially for U.S. sweet and savory snacks with markets valued at $3 and $5.3 billion, respectively.

As Canadian consumer demand for snacks continues to grow, USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service is hosting the North American Neighbors Sweets & Snacks Virtual Market Showcase to help you tap into this booming market. The virtual trade event will take place April 4-6 and provide a platform for you to meet with interested Canadian brokers, distributors and importers who can help you sell your products in Canada and obtain listings in key retailers.

We invite you to join us for this event if you sell or export U.S. shelf-stable foods that are portable and compact, like the following varieties of sweet or savory snacks:

  • Sweet biscuits, snack bars, and fruit snacks
  • Chocolate confectioneries
  • Protein and energy bars
  • Salty snacks, savory biscuits, nuts, seeds, and trail mix
  • Chips, including vegetable, pulse and bread chips, and tortilla chips
  • Meat and seafood jerkies
  • Natural, organic, clean, or plant-based snacks with limited ingredients

Don’t miss out on this event! The retail landscape in Canada differs from the United States; this virtual trade event will allow you to connect with Canadian food brokers and distributors to help you develop a realistic view on what it takes to launch products in Canada, and competitively price your products for market success.
