India: DGFT Amends Single Port of Entry Caveat for Imported Apples
On September 14, 2015, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Directorate General for Foreign Trade (DGFT) published a notification stating that all imported apples (falling under HS Code 08081000 of chapter 8) be limited to a single port of entry, namely the Nhava Sheva Port complex in Mumbai. On January 12, 2016, the DGFT officially rescinded the September notification, stating that apple imports are eligible through sea and airports in Kolkata, Chennai, Cochin, and Mumbai, as well as the dry port and airport in Delhi. The January 12 amendment also allows for cross-border imports of apples.
