Taiwan: Exporter Guide

Taiwan relies on imports of various food products that are not locally produced or not produced in sufficient volumes, which makes it a land full of opportunities for U.S. food and agricultural suppliers.

Chile: Exporter Guide

Chile is the largest market in South America for U.S. consumer-oriented agricultural products. The United States is the second largest supplier of agricultural and related products to Chile, after Argentina.
On December 31, 2021, the Ministry of Trade and Integration announced the first stage of 2022 meat and poultry quotas by HS code for historic suppliers (i.e., importers). The first stage approved the distribution of 2,835 tons of beef and 31,500 tons of poultry.
On January 11, 2021, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced that India and the United States agreed to a framework that will implement market access for a number agricultural products from both countries.
Bulgaria acceded to the European Union (EU) in 2007 and follows EU directives and regulations pertaining to food safety, quality, and standards. This report outlines applicable legislation regarding U.S. food-product exports to Bulgaria, particularly those rules which differ from EU legislation.

Japan: Japan Proposes a New JAS Standard for Miso

Japan invites public comments on the newly developed Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) for miso (fermented soybean paste). Comments are due on January 25, 2022 (Japan standard time).
On December 27, 2021, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued Notification No. F. No. Std/SP-08/A-1.2020/N-03 (see, Appendix I). The notification, was published in the Gazette of India (official gazette) on December 27, 2021, notifying draft amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations (2018).

India: FAIRS Country Report Annual

In calendar year (2021), important food safety related notifications published by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), included: (i) Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Regulations (2021); (ii) Food Safety and Standards (Ayurveda Aahar) Regulations (2021); (iii) Food Safety and Standards (Genetically Modified or Engineered Foods) Regulations (2021); (iv) Implementation date extension for Food Safety and Standards (Labeling and Display) Regulations; and (v) Finalization of Amendments in the Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations (2017), relating to registration and inspection of foreign food manufacturing facilities.
The Mexican Ministry of Health is proposing changes to the existing NOM-187 published in 2003. The purpose of the amendment is to establish the classification, ingredients, and specifications that products derived from corn and wheat need to meet.
The Ethiopian Sugar Corporation (ESC) and the Ethiopian Industrial Input Development Enterprise (EIIDE) have separately issued international competitive tenders to purchase 200,000 metric tons (MT) of white cane sugar and 10,000 MT of lint cotton, respectively.
